Resumen

It has been over ten years since the most important event of the recent history of the European Higher Education Area: The Bologna Declaration (1999). In recent years the European Union, as well as other international and national agencies, has made numerous proposals that have transformed the university model of the European area to meet new social demands.

These events have affected the deep and superficial university structures. The current scenario of Higher Education has changed the focus of European university policy, directing its efforts towards new models of learner-centered education and based on criteria of quality and excellence. In the following pages, delves into these themes by a tour of the principles and functions of the University and all the major events surrounding the so-called Bologna Process.
