Abstract

The present article is result of a research realized in the framework of the Research Group of Comparative Education of Seville, with the intention of studying the role granted to the woman across the illustrations, in the textbooks corresponding to the areas of knowledge of the natural, social and cultural way; Cas- tilian language and literature, as well as mathematics of the cycle of primary educa- tion.

With the analysis of the role of the woman and the man in the manuals, we can know not only the ideas, the values or the latent attitudes in a society, but in addi- tion the form in which the knowledge is transmitted in the classrooms both to chil- dren and to girls. The textbooks appear as well as invisible mechanisms across which they appear and are reinforced inequalities.

In these moments the illustrations gathered in the textbooks must be suffi- ciently representative of the social changes that are produced in the different con- texts.
